They come with advanced features like mapping that help you navigate around your home and remember where furniture is. They can also increase suction power to tackle dirtier areas.

iRobot Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 by iRobot is an entry-level robot vacuum that works well on carpets with low pile and bare floors. It has good suction however it has trouble with larger debris such as sand or grains of rice. It is capable of cleaning pet hair but isn't as strong against knots as premium Roomba models such as the j7 and I6.

The Roomba is easy to operate. It has a trio of buttons on its cover: 'Clean' launches the cleaning process and 'Dock' allows it to be put back in its charging station, and 'Spot Clean' initiates the targeted cleaning. It is controlled by a smartphone app which lets you schedule and stop/start cycles, and also adjust settings. It is also possible to pair the device to smart home devices such as Alexa or Google Assistant to control it by voice commands.

This vacuum cleaner is slower than others, but can still get into the most crevices and corners. It comes with a large bin that makes it easy to empty. It's compatible with virtual barriers and digital mapping, which allow you to set it to avoid specific areas or to stop completely cleaning if you want to keep it from getting stuck on something.

Although it's not the most efficient model for its price, it's better than many other alternatives. The Roborock E4 is more advanced than the Roomba 694 with a much better cleaning performance for carpets with low and no pile. It also has a longer-lasting battery and a cleaner path. It is also more comfortable to use and has fewer components that need regular maintenance, costs less to maintain over its life, and charges faster than the 694.

It's also worth taking a look at other models that are more expensive from the iRobot line, like the 981 or the v7. The v7 and 981 are more expensive, but provide significant improvements in cleaning performance both on low and bare pile floors. They also have a larger dirt compartment and charge faster, move more easily and are more a breeze to pair with smart home devices.

Shark RV1001AE IQ

This budget self-emptying robot vacuum cleaner does a great job on low-pile carpet and hard floors. Its combo brush reaches into corners and edges and it automatically increases suction when it spots carpet. It also excels at cleaning dirt that is embedded in carpets that are mid-pile. The IQ's small dock footprint and self-emptying feature are both nice features. If you want to change the floor's levels or define no-go areas, you'll need to manually reset the map.

The IQ's application has advanced mapping and automation capabilities however, it's not able to access no-go zones which are included on iRobot models. Its smart-pathing navigational system gives you greater maneuverability, and its high-pile carpet mode is clean well, although it does have a tendency to get caught up on rug tassels, and its iHome speaker lets you operate the robot by voice commands.

During our tests, we observed that the IQ handled pet hair with ease. It was able to eliminate lots of debris on floors that were not bare and a good amount on medium-pile rug. It was a little less efficient on shag carpets, where it struggled to get at dirt and dust buried in the fibers. It did a decent job of maneuvering around the legs of chairs and tight spaces, as well as the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. We did notice it was a bit slower on floors with no flooring, but it regained speed and performed better than the other robots we tested.

The IQ is a better choice for the majority of users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a larger dustbin and a longer battery life and is better at navigating obstacles. It has mopping tools that can remove sticky debris. The iRobot is, however, is better built and has less components that need maintenance or replacement and incurs fewer ongoing costs, and can even create virtual no go zones with its companion application. It is able to continue cleaning where it left off, even if the battery is out before it's finished. The iRobot is also controlled by voice, which can be an advantage for many users.

Eufy 11S

The RoboVac 11S eufy robot vacuum isn't among the most feature-rich models, but it does offer powerful cleaning power at a low cost. It's designed for those who don't require a complex mapping system or an app to control the device. The robot is able to last for more than an hour. It comes with a remote control, cleaning tool, and AC power adapter.

The 11S is slim, elegant and has a tempered glass upper deck that resembles brushed aluminum. It's a nice change from the utilitarian and industrial designs mop robot vacuum of Roomba, Samsung and Neato.

The eufy11S did well in our tests at removing larger particles and fine dust from hard floors. It was unable to thoroughly clean carpets with high and medium piles. The device is capable to hit furniture and people in its route. However, it can detect obstacles using sensors. When it comes across them, it stops and lets out an alarm so that you can manually guide it through the obstacle before getting back to work.

Another excellent feature of the eufy11S is its BoostIQ mode that lets you set the robot to automatically adjust its suction strength to match floor type and the amount of mess. The remote control makes it easy to direct the 11S to your desired place.

Single Room Mode is a great alternative if you have a small amount of furniture in the room you'd like to vacuum. The eufy can spend up to 30 minutes cleaning the area it is assigned.

Edge Cleaning is another option that reduces the time spent on each area to just 20 minutes. This will maximize battery life. By selecting this option the eufy can move in a spiral fashion, tackling corners and edges to ensure a clean.

It also comes with one of the most advanced obstacle avoidance systems. It also comes with a huge dustbin, a long runtime and a quick and smooth clean-up.

The Complete C1 is unlike most robots because it can switch between the standard head and turbo head for various kinds of flooring. The turbo head works best with high-pile or low-pile carpeting, while the standard powerhead is good for bare floors and light carpets. It also comes with an automatic height adjustment system that enables it to adapt to different types flooring without manual adjustments.

The model comes with a SBD 285-3 Classic Combination Floorhead that can handle hard floors as well as carpeting with a medium pile. The powerhead can be easily maneuvered and can reach hard-to-reach areas. It comes with five levels of surface adjustment as well as a switch that lets you turn off the brushroll to avoid hairs getting caught in tangles.

The Classic C1 also has a self-cleaning brush roll, an UtraClean mode that goes across the same area three times to give the best possible clean, and a self-emptying dustbin which can be filled with the press of one button. The sound level of this model is greater than other models. However its powerful motor with 1,200 watts and durable construction make it worth the extra cost.

If you're willing to pay more it's worth it. Miele Complete C3 is an excellent all-around canister robot vacuum that is more effective on carpet than the Classic C1. It has a better performance on all floors and is more solidly constructed and comes with an HEPA filter.
